Starry, Starry Night

"Constellation" used to be my favourite word when I was about 7 years old. I wrote it down in capital letters and taped it to the back of my closet so that whenever I'd open it, I'd see it. Ever since then, I've loved stars.

In the Philippines it'd already be dark by around 8pm. That's when the stars come out. :) My sisters and I would just look up and we'd go, "There's the big dipper!" which is the easiest to find. Then the little dipper. Then Orion, which we refer to as "Orion's Thing" (referring to his belt of course) [ex. "There's Orion's Thing!!" :D] ...just to be different. Then I'd go off and look for my constellation, the Scales (for Libra) ...which is also easy to find because one of the dippers' handles point to it. ;p Does it make sense if I say that the stars up here in Canada are much bigger and brighter than when we see them in the Phils? Maybe because we're closer? Hihihi me don't know.

Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight. Wish I may, wish I might, have the wish I wish tonight. *closes eyes* So, yep...I still do that...automatically to the first star I see. :) And come to think of it, I always have the same wish. I think it's time to change. Hahaha =))

I pretty much like anything that's connected to stars, especially songs. :)

But here's one particular song that I've been fond of since I was little. But it was only in college that I learned the depth and meaning of the song, so I liked it even better. :) It was inspired by Van Gogh's painting, "Starry Night," which of course I also like. ;p

Vincent - Don McLean

Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and gray
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul
Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colors on the snowy linen land

Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
How you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free
They would not listen they did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now

Starry, starry night
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
Swirling clouds in violet haze
Reflecting Vincent's eyes of China blue
Colors changing hue
Morning fields of amber grain
Weathered faces lined in pain
Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hands

Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
How you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free
They would not listen they did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now

For they could not love you
But still your love was true
And when no hope was left in sight
On that starry, starry night
You took your life as lovers often do
But I could have told you Vincent
This world was never meant for one as
beautiful as you

Starry, starry night
Portraits hung in empty halls
Frameless heads on nameless walls
With eyes that watch the world and can't forget
Like the strangers that you've met
The ragged men in ragged clothes
A silver thorn on a bloody rose
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow

Now I think I know
What you tried to say to me
How you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free
They would not listen they're not listening still
Perhaps they never will

Stars. I'll never get tired of them. :)
